Hopes and wishes for the new year!

First and foremost - HAPPY NEW YEAR! 2013 arrives shortly, and I welcome it with so much hope and anticipation of what it brings. Or rather, what I make it bring, too! I have so many dreams of what I want to achieve, and I have set some pretty challenging goals. More on that later. Let me share with you some pictures that pretty much sums up my year: (click for larger pictures)

It makes me feel so good, having these memories to look back on. The mountains around me have changed my life - literally. Uphill used to be so strenuous, and I felt like it was just such a waste of time. Hiking? What was the point? Where was the reward? Rewards used to be something sugar or chocolate covered. Sometimes, it still is! But the reward of having your own body push through pain, blisters, exhaustion and get your butt up to the summit.. It is priceless. I am so grateful that my physical waste didn't get to the point of ruin, where I couldn't have climbed these mountains. I have high hopes for 2013, it will be very, very uphill!

So, my goals for 2013:
  • Lose weight (..)
  • Eat healthy food
  • Try to track 1 0 0 0 miles / 1600km !!
  • Run an entire 5K
  • Be happy!
Realistic or not, that is my aim. 1000 miles / 1600k equals  2.7miles / 4.4k a day. That's not insane. You don't have to be wonder woman or iron man to do it. But it takes determination and willpower. I'll give it my all. And if I wind up at 600-700-800-900 miles, knowing I have done my best, that is more than good enough. :) Running an entire 5K is a challenge. I have knee issues, and I will have to lose a lot of weight before I can start running properly. As for now, I run uphill intervals (8% incline!), with 2-3 minutes of running and 1-2 minutes resting time. Considering I couldn't run more than 30 seconds on a level terrain last year..... I'm doing good! I hope that  you will continue to support me through 2013, I will offer all the support I have to give! Thank you!

Happy new year.
and may it be filled with fulfilled dreams!

  2. That's a totally do-able goal, Maren. During the first half of 2007, I walked over 600 miles. So you could accomplish 1000 miles in a year. Happy new year!

  6. You can do all of those goals Maren. I know you can. I made 1055. First started for 650, went to 1000 and surpassed that. I know you can do it. I'd like to run a full 5K, if my leg will let me. So far, no so much. We'll see what 2013 brings. Lossing weight, yepper. Eat healthy and be happy, now that's something simple and way easy to do. You can do them all.
Good luck with your goals and I can't wait to read about each and everyone.
Take care and Happy New Year!! Blessings!!

  10. So glad to see you and your lovely pictures back! You can make this year great! Intervals for the 5K is the best way to work up to it. This summer I reached that goal and it was so amazing! Hope to hear a lot more from you this year and see lots of hiking pictures of your beautiful area!
